Fustic House is a stately home in Barbados which exudes traditional charm, boasting spectacular views of the Caribbean coastline from its setting within a tranquil, 11 acre estate. The property accommodates 14 guests in seven luxury suites, occupying four separate wings which are spaced far enough apart to give optimum privacy.
The coral stone villa was built in the early 18th century and redesigned by Oliver Messel in the late 1960s. The renowned stage designer’s signature style was to make indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly flow together, creating a comfortable and elegant family home of exceptional beauty. Perched on a coral ridge, the impeccably kept grounds consist of a lagoon-style swimming pool, a park of mahogany trees, a koi-filled lotus lake and mature, tropical gardens created by the landscape gardener designer of Hampton Court Palace gardens.
The heart of the property is the Great House, where there are plenty of indoor and covered seating areas for relaxation and dining including a library. The adjoining Messel Wing is home to a comfortable living room and separate entertainment area.
Upstairs in the Great House is the master bedroom along with another king size bedroom while the Messel wing has two twin-bedded rooms with access to a large sun terrace. Accessed by pretty pathways and offering more privacy are the Plantation Wing and the Pavilion, the former offering a separate lounge area as well as two king size bedrooms with outdoor showers. The Pavilion consists of one king size bedroom with an outdoor shower, and plenty of seating on pretty terraces including a deck with a mahogany tree growing through it.
The natural lagoon-shaped pool designed by Messel, is fed by ionised water - similar to swimming in a natural spring. At night the pool is a magical area thanks to the lights set below. The expansive sun deck adjacent to the pool is built over a ravine within the trees - like a giant tree house. Picture yourself with the scenic view as your backdrop, tanning or having an aperitif before a sumptuous dinner prepared by chef Andy Taylor, formally of Lonestar Restaurant and Maddox fame. There are 15 members of staff in total who are on hand to ensure guests enjoy a relaxing and indulgent holiday.
Guests staying at Fustic House can play badminton, boules and table tennis on the lawns, or use the trampoline, children’s play area, games room and small gym. A quiet, sandy beach is just 5 minutes’ away on foot, or Little Good Harbour is a few minutes further where guests can use sun loungers and beach umbrellas, and dine at the Fish Pot Restaurant.
Plenty of activities are available in the surrounding area including watersports, tennis, golf and island excursions.
Fustic House Private Estate is the ideal getaway for large families or groups, offering the finest in Caribbean island living.
